Aris P. Georgakakos教授,于1980年获得希腊国立雅典理工大学学士学位,分别于1983年和1984年获得麻省理工学院硕士和博士学位。现为美国佐治亚理工学院土木和环境工程系教授,佐治亚州水资源研究所所长。曾任佐治亚理工学院土木与环境工程系研究中心副主任,环境流体力学和水资源项目负责人。现任国际期刊Journal of Hydrology副主编,并在多个国家级委员会中任职,为美国政府提供关于气候适应和水资源政策问题的建议。2014年,作为美国气候评估报告水资源章节的主要作者,受到奥巴马总统亲自表彰。
Aris P. Georgakakos教授主要从事水、能源和环境综合规划与管理、气候变化影响评估和适应性计划、洪水与干旱管理等研究。他所开发的决策支持系统目前已广泛用于包括佐治亚州在内的美国东南部,加利福尼亚,一些非洲国家,巴西,约旦,希腊和我国的流域规划和管理中。其研究曾获得美国地质调查局,美国陆军工程兵团,美国国家海洋和大气管理局,美国国家科学基金会,美国环保局,联合国粮食及农业组织等多个部门的资助。
Introduction of Prof. Aris P. Georgakakos
Prof. Aris P. Georgakakos holds a civil engineering Diploma from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, and Masters and Ph. D. degrees in water resources from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Georgia Tech and Director of the Georgia Water Resources Institute. He has also served as CEE Associate Chair for Research and as Head of the Environmental Fluid Mechanics and Water Resources Program for 17 years. He publishes extensively, is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Hydrology and serves in various national committees advising the U.S. Government on critical climate adaptation and water resources policy issues. In 2014, he was recognized by President Barack Obama for service and contributions as Convening Lead Author, Water Sector Chapter, US National Climate Assessment.
Dr. Georgakakos’ research and technology transfer activities aim to develop and implement prototypical information and decision support systems for integrated water resources assessment, planning, and management. His decision support systems are currently used for river basin planning and management in Georgia and the southeast U.S., California, several African countries, Brazil, Jordan, Greece, and China. His research and technology transfer activities have been sponsored by U.S. and foreign organizations including the U.S. Geological Survey, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Science Foundation, Environmental Protection Agency, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, World Bank, U.S. and European International Development Agencies, and several domestic and foreign electrical and water utilities.
