报告人简介：

Ian White，澳大利亚工程院院士，美国地球物理学会Fellow，澳大利亚国立大学环境与社会学院荣誉教授。长期从事干旱区水文过程及水资源可持续利用研究，包括地表水-地下水相互作用，气候变化对土地利用对旱区水质和水安全的影响，特别对旱区灌溉条件下土壤盐渍化过程开展了深入研究。发表论文300余篇，出版专著3部。

报告简介：

This seminar will draw some lessons from a career spanning the last 60 years involving water. These will cover aspects from molecular properties of the air/water interface, important for evaporation, through solutions to the highly non-linear flow equation for water in soils, to development of water national policy, implementation plans and national water legislation. The work has covered mathematics, physical chemistry, chemical and petroleum engineering, soil physics, hydrology, sociology and governance. Practical outcomes will be highlighted and some simple observations of conditions for successful research will be presented.
