报告题目:Scientific Method in Water Resources Engineering Research
报 告 人:郭俊克 副教授
邀 请 人:夏军强 教授
时 间: 2024年7月29日(星期一)上午9:00
地 点: 八教8220会议室
报告人简介:
Dr. Junke Guo (郭俊克) is an alumnus of Wuhan Institute of Hydraulic and Electric Engineering in Class 1979(武汉水利电力学院1979级校友). He is an Associate Professor of Water Resources Engineering in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He is currently in the National Cheng Kung University for a one-year sabbatical leave. He is an internationally leading authority in theoretical fluid mechanics, hydraulics, sediment transport, and applied hydrology. He published over 60 journal papers, mainly in the IAHR Journal of Hydraulic Research, and the ASCE Journals including Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, Journal of Engineering Mechanics, Journal of Hydrologic Engineering, Journal of Cold Regions Engineering, and Journal of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering. He solved several fundamental problems in fluid mechanics, applied hydraulics, sediment transport, and applied hydrology. His most recent achievements include the general unit hydrograph model and the general infiltration law. These two laws revolutionized the theory of inland hydrology and shifted our paradigm of watershed hydrology from an empirical to a theoretical subject.
报告简介:
In this seminar, based on his research experience, Dr. Guo will discuss how to apply the scientific method (or Newton’s research method) in water resources engineering research. Specifically, he will explain what the scientific method is, how to apply it for (1) the Second Log-wake law for River Velocity Distribution; (2) the General Unit Hydrograph Model for Surface Runoff, and (3) the General Infiltration Law and Its Simplification for Horton’s Equation.
