报告摘要:
 Nature is rich in fluid-flexible-structure-interaction problems. For instance, the flags flapping in the air, the fish swimming in the ocean, and the red blood cells moving in the human arteries.  Because of the complex three-dimensional freely moving deformable boundary and the coupled system of elasticity and hydrodynamics, the coupling interaction of viscous fluids and elastic structures is quite complicated and not yet well understood.
 It has become apparent that the immersed boundary (IB) method is a practical and important method for solving problems of this type. In this talk I will discuss the fundamentals of the IB method (mathematical formulation and numerical methods). As examples of its applications, I will demonstrate some of my recent works on simulations of a flexible fiber tethered at its center point in a 2D flowing viscous fluid and its generalization to three dimensions --- a flexible sheet tethered at its midline interacting with a 3D viscous flow, focusing on vortex shedding, drag reduction and scaling.


祝罗丁教授简介:
 Luoding Zhu是美国Indiana Univ-Purdue Univ Indianapolis大学数学科学系(Dept. of Mathematical Sciences)副教授(终生教职)。
他1989在浙江大学力学专业获学士学位;1991年在北京应用物理与计算数学研究所获流体力学专业硕士;2001年在New York大学Courant 数学研究所获博士学位(师从著名应用数学家,美国两院院士Charles S. Peskin教授);2001-2004 年在University of California Santa Barbara计算机科学系做博士后;2004起任Indiana Univ-Purdue Univ Indianapolis数学科学系助理教授;2009起任Indiana Univ-Purdue Univ Indianapolis数学科学系副教授。
主要从事计算生物流体力学、科学计算数值方法的研究。在浸没边界流固耦合计算方面有较高造诣,任多个计算数学、计算力学国际期刊编委。
