Benzhong Zhao 于加拿大滑铁卢大学获得学士学位,于美国麻省理工学院获得博士学位,现为加拿大麦克马斯特大学助理教授。主要研究方向为多孔介质多相渗流机理与应用。曾在PRL, PNAS, PRE, WRR等国际著名期刊发表论文。

Here, I present my work on multiphase flow in porous media across scales. The field-scale portion of the talk focuses on gravity-driven flows in the subsurface, with an emphasis on application to geologic carbon dioxide (CO2) sequestration. Through novel bench-scale experiments and mathematical modelling, I show that capillary forces can slow and stop the migration of a CO2 plume. The pore-scale portion of this talk demonstrates the powerful control of wettability on multiphase flow in porous media, which is manifested in the markedly different invasion protocols that emerge when one fluid displaces another in a patterned microfluidic cell. Finally, I will show some preliminary work on the engineering of superhydrophilic porous materials that have the potential to dramatically increase the efficiency of renewable energy storage via water electrolysis.
